Blogging tips // 6 tips for working with brands

Hvad forventer firmaet at du gør for dem.

// It is becoming a long time since I made my last blogging tips post, so I thought it was time to make a new one. Another sought-post was how to work with brands. I have been blogging for over a year, on several different blogs, and have learned from my mistakes. One of the reasons that I closed my previous blog, was actually due to cooperation with brands. I would therefore like to share what I have learned.

1. It's okay to write first. As a new blogger, you have not much visibility, making it difficult for brands to find you. It's perfectly okay to contact the companies yourself. Often it is a good idea if you are just started blogging, to make contact with small business as larger brands often have requirements for followers. It's also a good idea to contact some of your local stores, and hear if they are interested in a collab.

2. Make resource. Before going into an agreement with a brand, it's a good idea to check their site out and see if they really are what they purport. I have a few times seen people who have made giveaways in cooperation with fake companies, which is really a shame. Always look on the website if it looks safe, and possibly look at their trustpilot review.

3. Get it all settled in. It is a good idea when you make an agreement that everything is in place. What the company expects you to do for them. What do you get out of it. Is there a deadline. The more there is in place before you start, the less chance there is that a dispute arises and something goes wrong.

4. Different ways of working. You can suggest the company a new way of working together, as there are many ways to do it: Giveaways, shout-outs, reviews etc.

5. Work long and hard. Remember that when you work with companies you are "on job". Be sure to do the utmost. Use a long time typing your text, correct the spelling, and see if everything is as it should be. Take some great pictures of the product. Look the agreement through to see whether the post contains all the requirements that have been set up.

6. It's okay to say no. Perhaps one of the most important points, and also as I mentioned earlier, one of the reasons I stopped my last blog. When you are a new blogger, it can be very exciting to get free stuff, and you have a tendency to say yes to everything. BUT, it is important both to yourself and to your readers that you remain sincere and stick to your niche.

  7. Love these tips. I'm not super new anymore, but I've never been good at reaching out. This has inspired me to reach out to a local jewelry designer I've bought from before to feature!

  8. Awesome tips. Thank you for writing about this. I have to reject a few collaborations myself as I didn't feel the products would be of interest to my audience. It's okay to say no.

  10. thank you Emily. Very informative. I was wondering if it was too soon to approach companies since I have just started blogging and have not many followers. I am excited about starting this blogging journey, having fun with it and would like more followers. Suggestions? Thanks and really enjoy your blog!

  14. Some bloggers don't know how to say 'no' to a sponsor. They have no idea how it could affect the vibe of their blog and make them look like they don't have their own niche that fits who they are.
