5 pros and cons of long nails / 5 fordele og ulemper ved lange negle

(From Weheartit)

// It is not long ago since I first tried project-"long nails". After 19 years with nails of normal length, I thought that it had to be tested. Surprisingly, it had some impact, and when you have long nails, you have to suddenly think about the things before you just throw yourself into them. I am pretty sure that having long nails, is a discipline that requires a lot of years to master fully.
I did master it at all. When half them was broken off, I decided to cut them all down. But at the time I had them, I learned a few things:

5 cons:

1. I have incredibly small hands, and therefore also small nails. My nail polishes often hold for several years, and I've only thrown some out because they are too old, and not because they were used up.
When I had long nails, they were twice as long as my regular nails, which also means that the surface area was twice as large. After I had taken the nail polish on, the nail polish was almost halved - So I can better understand how some can manage to empty a nail polish.

2. When your nails are long, the risk of breaking are also about 8000 times as great. The first nail that broke was when I had to make a sharp U-turn (it was without power steering). And yes it hurts! I think most have watched a movie where some girl break her nail and you sit and think "Well, it's just a fingernail." When you have tried it, then you know that it is not something to sneeze at. It is even worse than papercut.

3. When I had long nails, my mother every day talked about how disgusting long nails were, and how many bacteria they contained.

4. Things you are used to do every day  is no longer possible or very difficult. Things like taking the seatbelt off and open the lid on the shampoo was a huge challenge, if not impossible. Just to text or pressing thing was suddenly a "big deal".

5. My mother was probably right about how much dirt long nails contained.  One of the worst things was when I was in the shower, and I had to put conditioner in my hair, which was down in a jar. When you should take it up with your finger, half of it sat under my fingernail.
I do not dare to think of all the things that got under your nails, when out of the shower.....

5 pros:

1. Now, of course there are not only disadvantages of long nails, there must also be some good things. One of the good things is that your fingers look longer and thinner. Because that my nails are very small, they almost disappear and get my fingers look like sausages - it helps with some long fine nails.

2. When I had long nails, I always felt a bit more feminine and fine. As they were a little extra accessory.

3. You can make nail art. With long nails you have a bit more "canvas" to unfold.

4. If you grow your own, you can avoid artificial nails. However, I have never tried such myself.

5. Last but not least, they can act as a spontaneous weapon if you are attacked. It's just a little unfortunate that it often goes beyond yourself, if you just get scratched up.

What is your experience with long nails?

  2. I've got to admit I never had long nails, I don't find them practical or hygienic but I do appreciate a good manicure, generally with blunt, straight edges. :)
